A CAR that appeared to have a valid insurance disc was seized from an uninsured driver by Laois gardaí today.
The BMW had an insurance disc displayed on the windscreen but a quick check showed that the policy was cancelled, just a month after the insurance was taken out. The motor tax was out of date since last July.
The Laois Roads Policing Unit stopped the vehicle near Abbeyleix, after an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) alert for no insurance.
Posting a photo from the scene (above and below) on social media this afternoon, gardaí said: “There was a valid disc displayed on the windscreen, however a check on our new insurance database showed that the policy was taken out and then cancelled a month later.”
The car was seized on the roadside and court proceedings have commenced against the driver.
