Vigilance urged after latest theft of valuable marine equipment

Gardaí have issued an appeal for information after a valuable boat and trailer were stolen from a home in Donegal town.

The property, which included a Mercury boat engine, were taken from the driveway of a house at Drumkeeghan sometime between 9am on Monday the 5 th of February and Midnight on Saturday the 10th. The boat is white in colour and has the following inscription along the side ‘Angel Betty’.

“We appeal to anybody who may have observed this boat/trailer in transit to make contact with Gardaí,” Garda Niall Maguire said.

If anybody has information in relation to the current location of these stolen items, or any relevant information, they should Ballyshannon Gardaí on 071-9858530. The Garda Confidential line may be contacted on 1800 666 111.

Garda Maguire added that every year, particularly in the spring and summer, boats, boat trailers, outboard motors, electronic and safety equipment are stolen. “There are several measures that can be taken to provide adequate security precautions to protect your valuable property and to reduce the risk of theft,” he said.

“Although boat insurance is essential, it is not a substitute for improved security.”

By improving your security measures, you will greatly reduce your risk of falling victim to a crime. Advice and information in relation to boat security has been posted to the ‘Garda Síochána Donegal’ Facebook page.
