El Paso Community College’s Risk Management Institute received a $100,000 grant from Texas Mutual Insurance Company on Tuesday, enabling the workplace safety educator to keep operating.

Texas Mutual Insurance Company awarded a $100,000 grant to EPCC, enabling it to continue funding the Risk Management Institute, which provides workplace safety courses for community employers, workers and the general public.

EPCC is one of 11 community colleges in the Lone Star State that provides safety classes with funding from Texas Mutual.

This is the tenth consecutive year that Texas Mutual has given a $100,000 grant to the college to support the risk management program.

According to Paxton LeMond, a senior safety services consultant for Texas Mutual, the grant will be used to fund trainers, safety equipment and training materials.

“El Paso’s unique because you have construction, you have trucking, just all different types of industries. So [the Risk Management Institute] tailors their program to provide safety training classes to prevent workplace accidents and exposures,” said LeMond.
