NerdWallet broke down four types of car insurance that allow drivers to pay per mile. Nationwide SmartMiles is one of them; it tracks your miles from a device that’s installed in your vehicle.

NerdWallet states if you drive less than 8,000 miles, it’s worth it. The only problem is it isn’t offered in North Carolina, and is only available in selective states.
