Spencer Fane attorney Andrew Brought recently lent his thought leadership to the Business Insurance article, Natural Disasters Put Spotlight on Safety Protocols.
The feature explores the uptick of negligence lawsuits against employers in the aftermath of natural disasters such as hurricanes and tornadoes. In his discussion with reporter Louise Esola, Drew explained that companies must consider weather-related issues as part of OSHA compliance and emergency preparedness.
“Once viewed as acts of God, or things that are not predictable and that you can’t control, increasingly regulatory agencies are taking the position that these severe weather events are occurring with such regularity that they’re becoming foreseeable,” he said. “And so … you need to have emergency action plans in place.”
At the firm, Drew counsels clients with complex challenges at the intersection of health, safety, and environmental regulations and is frequently called upon to assist in handling crisis management situations, strategic response, and incident investigations. He also serves on the Spencer Fane Executive Committee, working with other firm leadership to deliver a better experience for firm clients and professionals.
