Super Bowl Sunday will be spent at home for most viewers — their own or someone else’s — according to one survey, which found 82% won’t be watching at a bar or restaurant.

BizInsure, a business insurance company, showed where Fresno ranks compared to the other 50 largest metro areas in the country in terms of the average cost to host a Super Bowl party.

Super Bowl LIX, the 59th edition of America’s “big game,” will be held in New Orleans Sunday, Feb. 9.

The study took inflation into account when determining the prices of essential game-day foods and drinks – pizza, chips, beer, chicken, cheese, potatoes and soda.

It found that hosting costs have increased by $25 from last year’s reported average of $189, reaching $215 this year.

In Fresno, the estimated cost of hosting a Super Bowl party is $216.35, slightly above the national average of $215. The study ranked cities based on three metrics: average weekly income, money spent on Super Bowl party essentials and the percentage of weekly income spent on those essentials.

Among the 50 cities listed, Fresno ranked 43rd in the average weekly budget at $1,382.63, 20th for the average cost of Super Bowl party essentials at $216.35 and fifth for the percentage of the weekly budget spent on essentials at 15.7%.

Seattle costs the most at nearly $293. Los Angeles ($281), San Jose ($280.9) and San Francisco ($280.5) were the next three highest.

Despite being the third-highest in total spending, San Jose residents spend the lowest percentage of their weekly income on game-day essentials, at just 9.3%, reflecting the city’s high median income of over $3,000.
