Swiss Re Corporate Solutions announces new CUO, restructuring


Swiss Re Corporate Solutions said Thursday that Katie McGrath will become chief underwriting officer, effective June 1, as it announced it will restructure its business across market units.

Ms. McGrath will succeed Kera McDonald, who was named Swiss Re’s group CUO, also effective June 1.

Swiss Re’s commercial insurance arm also announced it will restructure its business across market units to serve companies and brokers at the country level.

Ms. McGrath, currently CEO North America, joined Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in 2019 as head of accident and health for North America. She will continue to be based in New York, reporting to Ivan Gonzalez, CEO of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.

Ms. McDonald, who is based in Zurich, joined Swiss Re in 2006 and has held various specialist and leadership roles. She was a 2020 Business Insurance EMEA Women to Watch winner.

Adrian Hall, currently head of U.K., Ireland, South Africa and EMEA wholesale, will head up the U.S. market unit for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in New York.

The other market units and their heads are:

  • Asia (greater China, Japan, Southeast Asia): Robert Hunsiker, based in Singapore.
  • Australia and New Zealand: Kevin Bates, Sydney.
  • Canada: James Gasco, Toronto.
  • France: Bruno Mostermans, Paris.
  • Germany (including Austria): Tina Baacke, Munich.
  • Ibero-America, Middle East & Africa: Angelo Colombo, Madrid.
  • Switzerland, Benelux, Nordics, Italy: Michael Rüsch, Zurich.
  • K. and Ireland: Nina Arquint, London.

All of the market heads will report to Mr. Gonzalez. The new structure is expected to take effect June 1.
