SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — When dealing with something like an apartment fire, the one thing most renters might forget about it is renters insurance.
Renters insurance covers your personal belongings, whether you’re renting an apartment or a house. It also provides liability protection in case you’re found responsible for any property damage. Renters insurance is not required by Iowa law, but it provides a safety net if misfortune strikes.

“You’re not just protecting what you could do wrong, but when you live in an apartment complex, you’re protecting yourself against what the other apartment tenants could also cause,” insurance broker Jake Stevenson said. “So you really need to protect yourself.”
Renters insurance can also protect belongings kept in your car if they’re taken or damaged.
