Axa makes global management changes


Axa SA on Tuesday revamped its management committee and announced several executive changes, including leadership changes at its Axa Reinsurance unit.

Patrick Cohen, a member of Axa’s management committee and CEO and of Axa France, was named CEO European markets and health. He was succeeded as CEO of Axa France by Guillaume Borie, who is currently deputy CEO of the unit.

Hassan El-Shabrawishi, CEO of Axa Africa, was named CEO international markets and will oversee Axa’s operations in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, India and South-East Asia.

Antimo Perretta, who led Axa’s European and Latin American operations, will continue supporting some business units in an advisory role before his retirement in 2024.

Nancy Bewlay, CEO of Axa XL Reinsurance, was named chief underwriting officer for Axa Group and will join the management committee. She was a 2018 Business Insurance Woman to Watch.

Renaud Guidée, who has held the role of group chief risk officer since 2019, was named CEO of Axa XL Reinsurance, succeeding Ms. Bewlay.

Françoise Gilles, chief strategic development officer for Axa Asia, was named chief risk officer for the Group and will join the management committee.

Anu Venkataraman was named chief strategy officer for the group in addition to her current role as group head of investor relations.

Georges Desvaux, Mr. Perretta and Gordon Watson will step down from the management committee “in the next couple of weeks,” according to an email from a spokesman. Mr. Desvaux is also retiring and Mr. Watson will become nonexecutive chairman for Asia, the email said.
