Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

I heard the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport before I saw it when collecting it from Hendra. There’s no doubt in my mind, that the Mitsubishi is pretty old technology when it comes to its engine. A very adequate 2.4 litre diesel engine still makes a lot of noise when you’re outside. From the inside, it’s quieter, but I find I need to crank up the volume of the radio to drown out the engine nosie

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport GLS Price

I’m in the Mitsubishi Pajero GLS 7-Seater, but when I tried to find the 4WD knob, it wasn’t there. So I’m testing a 2WD version rather than the 4WD I expected. And I’m wondering why Mitsubishi still has the 2WD option, when the 4WD is only $5000 more expensive. So this particualry vehicle has a tow bar, polished bull bar and rubber mats which adds around $5,800 to the price of $59,073 drive away (In Qld) whereas the 4WD would be $64,073

I know what I’d rather be driving and of course you’d recover the extra $5000 for the 4WD when it comes time to trade or sell it

Its purposeful rather than stylish The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has been around for a while it shows

Engine/Transmission

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is fitted with a 2.4 Litre diesel engine producing 133W of power and 430Nm of torque. Transmission is an 8-speed Auto.

Service/Warranty

All new Mitsubishi vehicles have the companies 10 year, 200,000 kilometre factory warranty with the proviso that you service with a Mitsubishi dealership. If you don’t that, the warranty reduces to 5 years / 100,000 klm. My very strong suggestion is that you utilize the Mitsubishi Capped Price Service program while your car is under warranty.

Mitsubishi also includes a 5-year perforation corrosion warranty which covers your new vehicle against rust where that rust comes from the inside out. Remember to give the car a good wash down if you ever encounter salt water

Comprehensive Car Insurance

The first company I go to for a quote is typically RACQ. For the Mitsubishi Pajero, RACQ have quoted me $727.04 with a $850 Excess. But remember this quote is for my personal history and will vary when you input your details. I chose Alliance to get a second offer. Allianz quoted me $714.37 with the same $850 excess, so fairly evenly priced.

The strongest advice I can give you is to never buy or renew with your historical company. You should get at least 2 quotes to ensure that you’ve got the best deal from a reputable company

When I was in primary school, teachers issued reports to show my parents and me what I’d achieved during the school year. I really liked the simplicty of the system, so thought I’d share my thought on the good and not so good of the test vehicle

Well Done Could Have Done Better
133kW of power is good Missing Blind Spot Warning (BSW) Lane Change Assist (LCA) Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
Plenty of room for 7 No mute button for the infotaintment
Rides and Handles Well Seat Adjustment controls are poor
Tows 3100kg braked and 750kg unbraked No Wireless Car Play

Summary and My Opinion

I was dissapointed that this was only a 2WD. I was expecting to test the 4WD version, however, the Pajero Sport was adequate for the week I had it. Plenty of power, smooth on the road and with sufficient space in the 3rd row. Would I buy it? No. There are plenty of 7-seat options around the same price that have AWD technology and from a safety perspective, that’s always a better option
