EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – In Evansville, one mother received a new vehicle after generous donors heard the story of her previous car being repossessed earlier this month, with her 7-month-old baby still inside.
Friends, family and complete strangers have raised enough money to get Sabriya Miles to get a new ride at Brucken Motors.
“It is a 2011 Ford Fusion. Hopefully it’ll be something that lasts her a long time,” said Brucken Motors owner, Brandon Brucken.
Hopefully not one that’ll be taken like her last one.
Miles was dropping off her son at daycare when she turned around in horror and saw a repo man driving away with her car with her newborn inside.
“She was able to see her car being pulled out of the parking lot,” said Tanisha Carothers.
Carothers is the one who started a GoFundMe for Miles.
Miles was shortly reunited with her daughter, but not her car or any other belongings inside.
“It’s been an unfortunate situation,” said Carothers.
That’s where Carothers comes in.
“It was not my intention for it to get this big,” said Carothers. “I was hoping for $5,000 dollars that was my goal.”
She raised close to $10,000 for Miles to get a new car.
“I’m glad we went over the goal because cars are much more expensive than I realize. It’s been a while since I went car shopping,” said Carothers.
Brucken Motors also gave Miles quite the discount.
“He’s not making any money on the deal so we’re extremely grateful for his heart and his staff,” said Carothers.
With the extra money they raised, Carothers says it’ll go toward Miles’ rent, car insurance and needed items for her newborn.
“It has been really rewarding to know when she drives off that she’ll have at least two months of comfort,” said Carothers. “It is a testament to our community and nationally.”
