Hochul unveils plan to try and bring down car insurance rates

New York Governor Hochul is unveiling a plan to try and bring the cost of car insurance in New York State down.

New York State Police Superintendent Steven James says in recent years, New York has seen a sharp increase in suspected auto insurance fraud.

“It is not a victimless crime. It drives up insurance premiums for every law abiding driver, costing the average New Yorker hundreds of more dollars per year.”

Governor Hochul is proposing two million dollars in the state budget to crackdown on fraudulent claims. That includes proposed legislation to go after a person who organized a staged accident, not just the person behind the wheel. Also, Hochul wants a ramped up effort to go after health care providers that give a bogus diagnoses that result in huge payouts.
