Ian aid deadline coming Jan. 12; other cutoffs ahead in Volusia

People who want to apply for federal help in recovering from Tropical Storm Ian should mark Jan. 12 on their calendars.

That’s the deadline to apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency aid and physical property disaster loans through the Small Business Administration for Tropical Storm Ian damages, according to a news release from Volusia County government.

Other deadlines are on the way:

  • Feb. 13: Deadline to apply for Hurricane Nicole FEMA and SBA Physical Property Damage Loans
  • June 29: Deadline for businesses and most private nonprofits to apply for Hurricane Ian SBA Economic Injury Loans.
  • Sept. 13: Deadline for businesses and most private nonprofits to apply for Hurricane Nicole SBA Economic Injury Loans.

For residents, tooSBA offers interest-free disaster loans in Volusia

“Homeowners, renters, business owners, homeowners associations and most private nonprofit organizations that have insurance should first file a claim with their insurance company; however, residents are encouraged to still apply for assistance and loans while they await the insurance company’s decision,” according to the county.

People can submit a FEMA application at disasterassistance.gov, through the FEMA mobile app or by calling 800-621-3362; people who want an SBA loan have to first register with FEMA, which can also be done online, through the app or at the same phone number. Once people register with FEMA, they can apply for an SBA loan at disasterloanassistance.sba.gov/ela/.

For information about SBA loans, call 800-659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.

Residents can apply for and register for FEMA assistance and SBA loans at the Disaster Recovery Center at the Florida Department of Health-Volusia at 1845 Holsonback Drive in Daytona Beach.

People who want to get help in recovering from Tropical Storms Ian and Nicole must file separate applications for those storms, according to the release.
