In a Minute: Register for the 13th annual LGBTQ+ Elders Virtual Conference | Minutes

LAWRENCE — Join others from across the country for the 13th annual virtual conference, “LGBTQ+ Elders in an Ever-Changing World.”

AgeSpan is hosting this popular event in partnership with Good Shepherd Community Care, the LGBTQIA+ Aging Project Fenway Health, and the Salem State University School of Social Work from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 20.

The one-day conference focuses on interdisciplinary practice and community engagement for people working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning + older adults, and caregivers. LGBTQ+ people interested in their own aging or caregiving needs are invited to attend.

Keynote speaker is Robyn Ochs, an educator, speaker, and grassroots activist. She is the editor of Bi Women Quarterly and two anthologies: “Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World” and “Recognize: The Voices of Bisexual Men.”

Attendees can select from nine workshops on topics ranging from intergenerational storytelling, addressing social isolation and support among transgender and gender diverse older adults, and the importance of inclusion in the research of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Free renters insurance resource fair

LAWRENCE — A variety of insurance agencies will participate in a pre-renters insurance resource fair from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at The Center, 155 Haverhill St.

Prizes include 15 free renters insurance policies or 10, $100 gifts cards.

Entertainment includes first responder vehicles, a smoke house, Paw Patrol characters, ice cream, food and music.

Heal Lawrence, a nonprofit that helps fire and disaster victims, is sponsoring the event along with numerous partners.

Summer job fair at NECC

HAVERHILL — A summer job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 12 in the Hartleb Technology Center on the Haverhill campus of Northern Essex Community College, 100 Elliott St. More than 30 employers are expected to attend. MassHire Merrimack Valley Career Center is sponsoring this event.

Housing messages from Community Teamwork

LOWELL — Affordable and accessible housing helps seniors stay in the community and helps growing and multigenerational families find housing that meets their needs.

The Fair Housing Program at Community Teamwork in Lowell covers 70 communities across Essex and Middlesex counties. As Greater Lowell’s Community Action Agency, Community Teamwork mobilizes resources for low-income people, provides them with opportunities to achieve stability and self-sufficiency and have an active voice and participation in the decisions that affect their lives.

The agency also provides technical support to tenants who may be facing housing discrimination and provides information about fair housing and tenant rights, and offers an extensive resource library that is applicable to all Massachusetts residents.

Community Teamwork supports Affordable Homes Act

LOWELL — Officials at Community Teamwork in Lowell are asking residents in the 70 communities their agency serves to contact your legislator and tell them to support H.4138, the Affordable Homes Act, to make sure that everyone in Massachusetts has equal access to housing that they can afford.
