Kristen Peed, head of corporate risk at Sequoia Benefits and Insurance Services LLC and a captive insurance industry leader, assumed the presidency of the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc., effective Jan. 1.
She succeeded David Arick, managing director, global risk management, at Sedgwick Claims Management Services Inc.
Ms. Peed joined the RIMS global board of directors in 2018 and has served as secretary, treasurer and vice president, according to a RIMS statement issued Thursday.
She first became involved with the New York-based organization when she joined the RIMS Northeast Ohio Chapter in 2011, initially as an officer and board member.
Ms. Peed previously was director of corporate risk at Cleveland-based CBIZ Inc. Prior to that she held various risk management roles at Swagelok Co. and STERIS Corp. Earlier in her career she was a commercial lines broker, focusing on professional and executive liability risks at BB&T Insurance Services Inc. and Oswald Cos.
Ms. Peed was a 2016 Business Insurance Women To Watch honoree.
Manuel Padilla, vice president, risk management and insurance, at MacAndrews & Forbes Inc., was named vice president of RIMS.
Christy Kaufman, vice president, property/casualty risk and compliance at USAA, was named treasurer.
Penni Chambers, vice president, risk management at Hillwood, a Perot company, was named secretary.
New board members for 2025 are Carnell Jones, risk manager at Trinitas Ventures LLC, and Ondrea Matthews, senior director, risk management and benefits, at CoorsTek LLC.
Former longtime risk manager Kevin Bates stepped down from the RIMS board last year following a job change. Jennifer Santiago, director, risk management and safety, at Wakefern Food Corp., is no longer on the board as her term ended. Ms. Santiago served as 2023 RIMS president.
