Maine fire marshal's office investigates Madison house fire that displaced tenants


The cause of a garage fire at a rental home on Friday is under investigation.

MADISON, Maine — A fire at a rental home in Madison on Friday is under investigation.

Madison fire responded to a reported fire at a house on Main Street just after noon, according to a news release from the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Upon arrival, crews found a fire in the garage, which spread to the walls and eaves of the home. Officials said crews quickly put out the fire and asked for assistance from the fire marshal’s office for an investigation.

Investigators found the fire began on the wall of the garage, according to officials.

The tenants of the rental home have been displaced. Officials said they also did not have renters insurance.

The fire marshal’s office is still investigating the cause of the fire while waiting for confirmation whether the garage had electrical service.

Officials said the fire does not appear suspicious at this time.
