Mark Shaw, 61, of Robinson, TX, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026. Known for his love of family and friends, quick wit and sarcasm, work ethic and many great talents he perfected during his life, he lived a full and rich life, albeit too short.
Mark is survived by the love of his life, wife Lynnette Elliott Shaw, mother Emily Shaw, sisters Sheryll, Michelle and Lisa (Glynn), and extended siblings Michail, Bob, David, Kimberly, Melanie, Penelope and Sierra. Also survived by his in-laws Izetta & Kenneth Thun, Harrell Gene & Mary Elliott and brother-in-law Dean (Malinda) Elliott, and a host of nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Mark is preceded in death by his father Robert Shaw, sisters Teresa Lynn Kent and Kim Veazie, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Mark grew up in Wheat Ridge, CO, attended Wheat Ridge Jr. High School, and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1983. He earned a BA degree in Sociology from Regis College in 1988. During his senior year at Regis, Mark accepted an internship followed by a lengthy career in Claims Management with Progressive Insurance Company. Mark retired from Progressive in 2006.
Shortly after retiring, Mark moved full-time to Buena Vista, Colorado, where he enjoyed living at the base of Mt. Princeton. His early retirement years were complete with lengthy mountain biking, perfecting his fly-fishing (and tying) on the Arkansas River, teaching himself to snowboard when he was 42, and becoming an amazing landscape photographer, learning some of his mad skills from his Dad, and from John Fielder, the renowned Colorado photographer.
In 2010, fate and a mutual love of the Colorado mountains played a part in Mark meeting the love of his life, Lynnette Elliott. Mark was immediately smitten with this lovely Missouri/Texas lady, and they immediately began their journey together, marrying in September 2013 in Buena Vista. Together, they enjoyed camping, road trips, cooking, photography, spending time with friends and family, and all wonderful things that come with living in the Colorado mountains.
In April of 2011, Mark was diagnosed with brain cancer, and over the next few years, endured surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. As difficult as all of that was, he fought hard, with Lynnette by his side, encouraging him all along the way. Mark was diagnosed with cancer again in 2024, and the last couple of years were very difficult for both he and Lynnette.
Please remember Mark fondly in your memories, and we hope they bring a smile to your face. Life is short. Live it on your terms, as Mark did. Take the trip. Buy the toy. Take the time. Live for today. Put relationships first. Most importantly, love your family and friends, and spend as much time as you can making your own memories with them.
“Yesterday is but a dream, tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope” – Kalidasa.
Celebrations of Life for Mark are being planned in Colorado this summer/fall.
