ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Minn. — After the possibility of suffering significant loss with fires it can be a daunting task to figure out next steps towards recovery.
With every claim being handled differently, there are a few important things to take care of immediately. Reid Strelow of State Farm in Duluth recommends taking record of damage through photos and videos.
They also recommend to reach out sooner than later is key to getting the process moving along quickly.
The state of Minnesota specifically is well received with insurance claims related to fire.
“Fortunately in Minnesota there’s a lot of similarities with policies particularly with the things we’re dealing with the fire related exposure. So all home insurance companies in Minnesota are going to have that as a cover, it’s one of the main things,” said Strelow.
When it comes to what can be replaced after being affected by a fire, there is quite a lot that both renters, and home insurance can cover.
“It provides a handful of things. First of all, it covers your personal property. So the place in which you’re living if it sustains a water loss, a fire loss, is going to pay to replace all of your stuff,” said Strelow. “From your furniture, your clothing, your electronics, these kinds of things. And also it does provide an additional living expense. So if you’re living in an apartment, or home that you’re living in that you’re renting, it sustains a cover loss. There’s coverage available for temporary housing.”
At this time, Reid Strelow State Farm is accepting new clients. But they encourage others to seek help sooner than later only because of the different circumstances with fire related insurance, the relief can take vary in time length.
