even more exciting. Although it’s technically a refresh — it’s replacing the existing Citi Premier® Card

— the card’s new benefits and welcome offer provide compelling reasons for prospective cardholders to apply. Let’s take a look at the details of the new Citi Strata Premier Card, including revamped benefits and earnings.
Citi Strata Premier Card new benefits
It’s common to be wary when card issuers announce a card change, especially since it typically means benefits are slashed while fees are increased.
This isn’t the case for the Citi Strata Premier Card, which has replaced the Citi Premier Card effective immediately. This means that those who held the Citi Premier Card have seen their benefits updated to reflect that of the Citi Strata Premier Card. Happily for existing cardholders, as well as those that don’t yet have the card, the Citi Strata Premier Card’s updates appear to be entirely positive.
All existing benefits of the Citi Premier Card have remained, including the card’s $95 annual fee.
The Citi Premier Card earned 3 ThankYou® points per $1 at restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations, air travel and hotels and 1 point per $1 on all other purchases. Cardholders also continue to benefit from a $100 discount off a $500 or more single hotel stay booked via Citi’s travel site once per calendar year.
New benefits of the Citi Strata Premier Card include:
- Earn 75,000 points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening (previous Citi Premier Card offer was 60,000 points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening).
- Earn 10 ThankYou® points per $1 spent on hotel, car rentals and attractions booked through CitiTravel.com, 3 points per $1 on air travel and other hotel purchases, at restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations and EV charging stations and 1 point per $1 on other purchases.
- New travel insurance benefits, including:
- Trip delay insurance.
- Trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance.
- Lost or damaged luggage insurance.
- Rental car insurance.
The Citi Premier Strata Card remains a World Elite Mastercard, which means you’re entitled to benefits such as a complimentary ShopRunner membership and monthly Lyft credits.
Finally, those who are looking to acquire the Citi Strata Premier Card will want to be aware that the welcome offer is only available to those who haven’t received a bonus for the Citi Premier Card within the last 48 months.
Unpacking the Citi Strata Premier Card’s travel insurance
While the addition of rewards on EV charging stations is a nice perk for electric vehicle owners, the most exciting change to come from this refresh is the addition of travel insurance benefits.
Citi cards have previously offered travel insurance, though those were axed back in 2019. This card revamp marks a comeback of those benefits — and the protections are back with impressive strength.
- Trip delay insurance: Benefit kicks in starting at six hours, with a maximum of $500 per trip and two claims per consecutive 12-month period.
- Trip cancellation/interruption insurance: A maximum of $5,000 per trip and $10,000 per consecutive 12-month period.
- Lost or damaged luggage: A maximum of $3,000 ($2,000 for New York) per trip and two claims per consecutive 12-month period.
- Rental car insurance: Coverage is secondary within your country of residence, primary when you’re traveling abroad. There are no country exclusions for coverage.
Final verdict
This rebrand of the Citi Premier Card is a happy change. Keeping all the same benefits, not increasing the annual fee, bumping up the welcome offer and adding in new insurance benefits is a smart move by Citi. The Citi Strata Premier Card is now one of the best of the mid-tier travel credit card market bunch.
