Pee Dee woman charged after more than $80K insurance fraud


FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – Authorities said a Florence County woman was arrested and is facing forgery and fraud charges.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said 47-year-old Jennifer Graham, of Lake City, was charged with forgery and presenting a false claim for insurance payment on Tuesday.

Documents from SLED state that in January of last year, Graham knowingly submitted altered medical bills for an unnamed individual to Guardian Life Insurance Company.

The bills were reportedly worth over $86,000.

Graham allegedly claimed that in September 2023, the person was injured in a car accident and hospitalized at the Medical University of South Carolina in Florence County.

An arrest warrant states that MUSC had no patient record of the person at that time.

According to documents, in a voluntary statement, Graham admitted to submitting the bills.

Graham was booked into the Florence County Detention Center and released on a $20,000 bond.

The South Carolina Department of Insurance requested the SLED investigation.

The case will be prosecuted by the SCDOI
