Realtors Help OKC Homebuyers Navigate High Insurance Costs

The Oklahoma City Metropolitan Association of Realtors (OKCMAR) sends this information as posted below:

OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 13, 2025) — Escalating homeowners insurance costs are putting significant pressure on household budgets across Oklahoma, particularly for first-time buyers and those on fixed incomes.

Despite the state’s reputation for affordability, the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Association of Realtors (OKCMAR) says Oklahoma homeowners now pay nearly three times the national average for home insurance, which can dampen buyer confidence and slow transactions.

“When insurance turns into a major line item instead of a manageable expense, it can change what a family can reasonably afford,” said OKCMAR Board President Kimberly Robbins. “Realtors are helping sellers price homes with today’s premiums in mind and making sure buyers account for insurance before they make an offer.”

Robbins emphasized the importance of helping clients understand the challenging insurance landscape before they get too far into the buying process. She said OKCMAR member Realtors work alongside mortgage lenders, insurance professionals and policymakers to identify solutions that can ease cost pressures for local families.

“The Oklahoma housing market remains fundamentally strong,” Robbins added. “Our communities, employment base and lifestyle advantages continue to make this a great place to buy, sell and build a future.”
