Rene Goforth
DALLAS — Rene Goforth passed away April 7, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born in Overton, Texas on March 31, 1947 to Morris Shephard Goforth and Birdie Beatrice Tikell Goforth. His family moved to Houston, Texas where he graduated from Spring Branch High School. Rene was a member of the Lambda Chi Fraternity and worked on an undergraduate degree from Southwest Texas University until he was drafted by the US Army to fight in the Vietnam War. After serving his country, Rene returned to San Marcos to continue his education. After college, Rene began a 50-year career in the Insurance business. His first job was with Allstate and then he went to work for the American General Insurance Co. in Houston, Texas. It was in Houston that he met his wife, Marci Zak. They were married for almost 55 years, before his passing.
In 1979, Rene moved his family to Victoria, Texas and continued his insurance career with Foss, Cates, Hudson & Sims; Hilb Rogal & Hamilton, and finally Higginbotham Insurance Agency. Rene loved the one on one contact with his customers and he never met a stranger. He received many special insurance honors through the years and was a longtime member of Northside Rotary League. Victoria was a wonderful place to raise a family and form lifelong friendships.
After retirement, Rene and Marci moved to Pinnacle Club in Mabank, Texas to be closer to their 4 grandchildren who were living in Dallas. Rene loved taking them fishing, tubing, waterskiing, teaching them to drive the golf cart and just being their G-Dad! Pinnacle Club was also a perfect place to acquire lasting friendships.
A lifelong Methodist, Rene was predeceased by his parents and brother Eric Goforth. He will be missed and fondly remembered by his wife Marci Zak Goforth, daughters Ashley Wheat and Natalie Goforth, son Grant Goforth, beloved granddaughters Claire Goforth-Hill and Westyn Wheat, grandsons Thomas Cayden and William Wheat and his nieces and nephews.
