Ripe has finalized its acquisition of GJW Direct, a UK-based marine insurance brand previously owned by Munich Re Specialty. The deal, first announced in October 2024, marks Ripe’s continued expansion in the marine insurance space, where it already operates Insure4Boats and Craftinsure.
Founded in 1826, GJW Direct is known for its specialist boat insurance offerings. The brand’s products have now been rebuilt on Ripe’s proprietary platform, Juice, which will power a more streamlined and digital-first customer experience.
The sale supports Munich Re Specialty’s shift in strategic focus, while Ripe positions itself as a dominant player in UK marine insurance, with plans to further grow its specialist and SME portfolio.
