Family is everything, and so are celebrations.The couple will be celebrating 35 years of marriage next month and last month, they were also thrilled to get a new roof for free.”When the time came for the roof to be replaced, we couldn’t have did it. If I may, honey, because we are elderly and on social security, it helped us out a lot,” the couple said.Their roof went from old to new in just one day, thanks to a program through Habitat for Humanity and the Orange County government.Now, a similar program is being offered to St. Cloud residents for the first time.”When St. Cloud called us and said they want to bring this to our community, we’re like, ‘Let’s go, we’re ready,’” Catherine Steck McManus said.She’s the president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando and Osceola County and she adds the initiative enhances safety and savings.”With the insurance crisis that we’re all facing right now, a new roof with two different kinds of inspections, which we will also provide, can lower their homeowners insurance, sometimes 20, 30, 40%,” McManus said.”Our insurance, homeowners insurance, has decreased.
