Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office hosts first free teen driving course

The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office hosted its first free Teen Driving Course Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tulsa County Fairgrounds.

The course had 15 slots available and participants were required to bring their own vehicles.

It focused on critical driving skills and new driver techniques. Its purpose was to provide young drivers with defensive and evasive skills to better avoid deadly traffic collisions.

The course also went over each teen’s vehicle’s operations, so each young driver had a full understanding of their automobile.

Participants drove through sections of the same course used to teach law enforcement officers in the Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training but at slower speeds.

Successful completion of the course granted the young drivers a certificate that could be given to the driver’s/parent’s insurance representative for possible auto insurance reductions.

TCSO hopes to provide more free courses like this one in the future to promote safe driving among all new drivers.
