The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will be holding its Boat Tennessee Course on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, at the DeKalb County Community Center, UT Room, at 712 S Congress Blvd, in Smithville. The event will run from 8 AM to 4 PM.
Boat Tennessee is an eight-hour boating safety course designed to appeal to hunters, anglers, personal watercraft operators, and recreational boaters. Topics include an introduction to boating, boating laws, personal safety equipment, safe boating practices, boating problems, towing boats with trailers, storing and protecting your boat, and a chapter on using boats for hunting, fishing, water skiing, and boating on rivers.
Individuals who successfully complete the course and exam are awarded certificates of completion. Some marine insurance companies offer discounts on boat insurance to those individuals who have successfully completed this course.
Classes are taught free of charge to the public. There will be no lunch hour. (Important Note: If the student was born after January 1, 1989, an additional $10 fee to TWRA and a Type 600 permit must be obtained from any TWRA licensing agent, such as Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, etc. PRIOR to the class, please bring that document to the UT Room.
