Last year, draft law No. 9016 was included in the agenda, which provides for an administrative penalty in the form of a fine for drivers who violate the rules for transporting animals in a car, endangering both pets and themselves. What fines are planned to be imposed for this violation and how to safely transport animals in a car are discussed in the article.

Transporting animals in a car: what is known about the draft law?

Drivers who travel in a car with their pets are often unaware of the rules for the safe transport of animals. Last year, a draft law was registered in the Verkhovna Rada that would impose fines on motorists who ignore these rules.

The draft law aims to improve safety on Ukrainian roads and reduce accidents that may occur due to an improperly secured animal in a car.

An animal running around in a car can endanger all passengers:

● it distracts the driver, who may lose vigilance and create an accident on the road;

● in the event of an accident, an improperly secured pet can be seriously injured or even killed;

● in the event of a road traffic accident, an unsecured animal can injure not only itself, but also passengers or the driver.

How to transport an animal in a car: options for securing it

● Seat belts, which are attached to the main seat belts and help to fix the animal’s position by attaching the belts to a collar or harness.

● A pet carrier. If the size of your pet allows, it is a great option to transport it in a special carrier secured with seat belts.

● Special pet car seats are like child seats, but for four-legged friends. They have high sides and are attached to the car seat, providing a secure fit and protection during the journey.

● Trunk nets. Owners of large dogs often transport them in the trunk. In this case, a special net will come in handy to prevent the animal from moving into the cabin in the event of sudden braking.

Fines for animals in the car

Despite the fact that the draft law was registered last year, there is no news about it yet. However, it is known what fines drivers will face for improper transportation of animals if the law is adopted: from UAH 510 to UAH 850.
