In the near future, Ukrainian drivers will be able to pay fines for traffic violations directly at the place of the traffic police stop – it will be enough to scan a special QR code with a smartphone and make a payment. This was announced by Oleksiy Biloshitsky, First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department.

What is the essence of the new system?

The new system is designed to replace outdated payment terminals. The project is currently in pilot mode. According to representatives of the patrol police, test launches have already taken place in Chernivtsi and Vinnytsia regions and proved to be effective and convenient. As part of the testing, the system has shown that drivers can quickly and easily pay imposed fines directly from their smartphone screen.

What are the advantages of the new system?

🔻 No need to look for or wait for a free terminal – the inspector simply shows the QR code.

🔻 The time for issuing a fine is significantly reduced: the payment procedure takes just a minute.

🔻 The system makes it easier to control payments, because the payment is recorded immediately in the electronic database.

When will the payment of fines via QR code be launched across the country?

It is planned that the QR code payment system will appear in Kyiv in the near future. All patrol crews in the capital will receive the necessary equipment to quickly display a QR code and accept payments. Thus, all terminals for paying fines in Kyiv will be completely replaced. After the successful launch in the capital, the police management intends to expand the practice of paying fines via QR code to other regions of Ukraine.

According to Oleksiy Biloshitsky, the introduction of the new technology will simplify the process of paying fines and make it as convenient as possible for both drivers and patrol officers, and the experience of Chernivtsi and Vinnytsia regions only confirms this. The full launch in the capital will be another step towards the modernisation of the patrol service and further digitalisation of public services.
