Kyiv is stepping up support for defenders with disabilities by increasing the amount of compensation for car purchases and expanding the programme’s capabilities. This is a step towards mobility, independence and a return to active life for veterans. Find out how much military personnel can now receive and what additional benefits are available
Kyiv is expanding support for defenders who have lost their health due to the war. Starting next year, the capital’s authorities will increase the amount of partial compensation for the purchase of a car for veterans with disabilities — the decision was announced by the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, after a meeting with veterans.
What compensation is currently in place?
In 2025, 48 veterans with disabilities of groups I or II, resulting from injuries, were able to take advantage of the partial compensation programme for the cost of new cars. The total amount paid exceeded UAH 25 million.
Currently, the amount of compensation for a purchased car is UAH 545,000.
What will change next year
From 2026, Kyiv will officially increase the amount of partial compensation to UAH 605,000. This will allow more veterans to purchase a car and ensure their mobility, independence and the opportunity to return to an active life.

Additional assistance for adaptation
In addition to purchasing a car, the capital will compensate for the cost of converting the vehicle to the individual needs of veterans. The amount of such assistance is up to UAH 100,000. This is especially important for military personnel with serious injuries who require special equipment.
Possibility of compensation for used cars
The city is also considering expanding the programme so that veterans can receive compensation not only for new cars, but also for used ones. This will give them more freedom of choice and reduce the financial burden on the families of defenders.
