What dogs are banned from your home insurance in Georgia?

Homeowners in Georgia are facing a growing challenge when it comes to securing home insurance.

“Aside from natural disasters and water, the three things that give home insurance companies agita are dogs, pools and trampolines,” according to Forbes.

A recent analysis reveals that certain dog breeds are leading to insurance denials or increased premiums.

Why are dogs leading to insurance denials?

The issue stems from the high cost of liability claims associated with dog bites and related injuries.

“The average dog bite claim has been around $44,760,” according to Forbes.

This significant expense has prompted many insurance companies to implement stricter policies. Some insurers maintain lists of banned breeds, outright refusing coverage to owners of these dogs.

Which dogs are banned from homeowners insurance?

According to Forbes, these three dogs will get your home insurance banned 100% of the time:

  • Doberman Pinscher
  • Pit bull
  • Rottweiler

Here are other dog breeds that are most often banned:

  • Chow Chow: 95%
  • Wolf dogs and wolf hybrids: 93%
  • Presa Canario (Canary dog): 86%
  • Akita: 79%
  • German Shepherd: 45%
  • Husky: 38%
