Rebeca Shah Vazquez, the owner of ASIA Insurance, said her business specializes in taking risks on people many other insurers might shy away from.

Last month, ASIA Insurance opened its second location at 1425 Roosevelt Rd. in Broadview. The first location is in the Rogers Park community in Chicago.

“I live around here and we pass this community all the time,” she said. “As I saw some of the things the town is doing, I thought this would be a good location for the second place.”

Vazquez said her father formed ASIA Insurance in 1989. She said she got into the family business about six years ago. Vazquez said the company’s niche is providing homeowners, auto, business and life insurance to those conventionally deemed high-risk or even uninsurable.

“We insure Uber and Lyft drivers, Amazon drivers, people who are unlicensed, people who have international licenses, and small business owners,” she said. “We even work with smoke shop owners, which has been the hot new thing lately. I’m not scared of that.”

Vazquez said she has two employees who work at the Rogers Park office while she tends to the new Broadview location with her two special volunteers: her husband, Josue Vazquez, and her mother, Gloria Shah.

“Not many people worry about small businesses,” Vazquez said. “Having lived through this experience, I feel how important it is to have someone in your corner trying to explain stuff. Insurance is boring, but it’s important. Hopefully, my insight will help them.”
