New Laws That Go Into Effect on January 1: Changes to Virginia’s Auto Insurance Requirement

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Starting January 1, 2025, Virginia will increase the minimum auto insurance liability coverage limits. The new requirements set coverage at $50,000 for bodily injury or death per person, $100,000 for bodily injury or death per accident, and $25,000 for property damage per accident. For policies issued or renewed on or after that date, every motor vehicle owner’s policy has to clearly state the vehicles covered, extend coverage to the insured and anyone using the vehicle with permission, and provide protection for damages caused by accidents.  The updated limits aim to offer better financial protection for drivers and accident victims.
