‘Sir, do you have car insurance? What could happen to MVD?’ Natives against Officials; Officials stopped the inspection

Kozhikode: Locals questioned the officials of the Motor Vehicle Department in the middle of the road while checking and taking action against tourist buses. A video is going viral in which the locals are questioning the motor vehicle department’s interceptor vehicle, which is on the road for inspection, alleging that it does not have insurance. A video of the officers walking away after the inspection is over while the people are gathering around them with questions is circulating on YouTube.

After the accident in Palakkad Vadakancheri, the Kerala Transport Department and the High Court had taken strict action against the tourist buses. Bus owners and others are raising strong opposition against the proposal that buses should be color coded within a few days and additional entertainment devices should be removed. Many people have also come out on social media saying that it is a drastic action and it is cruel to suggest changing the color of buses without giving even a little delay. But Transport Minister Antony Raju’s reply is that no more delay will be given. After this, the motor vehicle department and the police have also tightened the inspection. Meanwhile, a new video is circulating.

Sir, do you have car insurance?

It is clear from the video that the inspection is taking place at a private bus stand, but it is not clear where or where the incident took place. A bus plying on the Thrissur – Kozhikode route can also be found nearby. Some say in the comment box that it happened in Chevayur. An officer can also be seen recording the conversation between the officers and the people on a mobile camera. In the meantime, a person comes with a question whether the MVD vehicle is insured.

If given one more chance to Rajya Sabha, he can accept it, not to the committee, what is the aim of Suresh Gopi?
‘Sir, is this car insured? One of the locals asks the officer on the driving seat, “Doesn’t this car have insurance?” But the officer’s question was who said it. He repeated the question ‘Sir, this car does not have insurance’. The official’s reply was that he would show me when he came to Chevayur. Then he gives some vague answers. Sometimes you can hear the answer that no one says that they will show the insurance when they come home.

“Sir, what can happen to MVD, can’t it happen to locals? Sir, not for your convenience. Does this car not have insurance?” I can hear you always asking. In the meantime, in the video, the officer who has closed the window of the vehicle reverses the car and drives away from the bus stand. The information on the vehicle website states that the insurance of this Maruti Ertiga vehicle under Kozhikode RTO has ended on July 23, 2022. Some have pointed this out in the comment box.

One person’s response was that there is only salvation if you come down and react like this. “Similarly, everyone should react together, we also have to live, here everyone has the same position, don’t just pretend to have power and put on a show.” Another wrote in the comment box.

Law says

Third party insurance is mandatory for all private and transport vehicles as per the Motor Vehicle Act. This is to provide compensation to the victims in the event of an accident. Meanwhile, as per Section 146 of the Transport Act, separate insurance is not required for central and state government vehicles which are not used for commercial purposes. The law stipulates that if a government vehicle is involved in an accident, the government should pay compensation directly. Some have also pointed out in the comment box that since it is considered as a single pool, there will be a discrepancy in the information on the Parivahan website and it does not make sense that the MVD vehicle does not have insurance.
