SPOKANE, Wash. – As the first snowfall of Spokane was hitting the roads, drivers started to feel the impact.
The icy roads have already led to several car crashes, including rollovers, sliding, and fender-benders.
Brianne Rasmussen, General Manager at Crash Champion’s downtown location, says these incidents can range in price.
“On average you’re probably around 4,000,” Rasmussen said. “Four to Six thousand is pretty average.”
Insurance plays a crucial role in these situations.
By state law, every motor vehicle must have liability insurance, covering at least $25,000 for bodily injury for one person, $50,000 for two people and $10,000 in property damage.
But whatever your insurance coverage, auto shops take damaged vehicles for repair.
“We work with anybody,” Rasmussen said. “I mean, we’re just here to get people back on the road, get them in their car, making sure it’s safe for them.”
According to several local insurance brokers, many drivers opt for insurance beyond basic liability, which come at a higher price point. But even these plans might not include and may not include a rental car option.
This can be a challenge when cars are out of commission for weeks, forcing customers to rent cars out of pocket, or seek alternate transportation.
Several insurance agents NonStop Local reached out to emphasized the importance of regularly reviewing car insurance policies. They advised knowing what your insurance covers before you need it.
And when it comes to repairs, auto body shops across Spokane say the cheapest way to repair your car, is to not have to repair it at all.
“The roads are icy and even the slush will grab you up,” Rasmussen said. “But really, just slow it down. Take a little bit extra time and really keep your distance.”
