Canyon Lake boat, golf cart registration renewals due May 1

Canyon Lake boat and golf cart registration renewals are due May 1.

All motorized boats—including those powered by electricity—must provide proof of insurance at the time of registration.

The POA has outlined specific insurance requirements for boats. To ensure compliance, the POA recommends that boat owners contact their insurance agency and request a copy of their policy’s declaration page, which should include the policy number and expiration date, eligible member as “name insured” on the policy (prime, associates, lessees with privileges), a description of the boat, a $300,000 minimum liability coverage per occurrence, and Canyon Lake POA named as an “additional insured” with the POA’s full address. Boat registrations that do not meet these criteria may be delayed or denied.

As of January 1, a California Boater Card is required for all motorized vessel operators, regardless of age. All persons who operate on California waters must have one.

Golf cart registration also requires proof of insurance, which can typically be obtained through an automobile or homeowner’s policy. Unlike boat insurance requirements, there is no minimum liability coverage or requirement to list the POA as an additional insured for golf carts. The document will need to detail the member listed as “name insured” on the policy, the policy number, and the expiration date.

Despite the more relaxed insurance standards, the POA reminds residents that all golf carts operated within the community must be registered and insured to help maintain safety and accountability on community roads.
