Coterie Insurance (Appleton, Wis.), a tech-enabled, data-powered managing general agent, has appointed Mike Albert as chief technology officer and Allan Egbert as chief platform officer.

Mike Albert, CTO, Coterie Insurance.
Albert and Egbert, co-founders of InsurTech firm Ask Kodiak, have advised Coterie since early 2025. Ask Kodiak developed an appetite and eligibility platform for commercial insurance distribution before being acquired by Applied Systems in 2021. Coterie says the appointments reflect its focus on scalable, efficient, and agent-friendly technology for small business insurance.
“As Coterie scales, we are investing in roles and technology that reflect the complexity of our ecosystem and the simplicity we owe our partners,” comments David McFarland, CEO, Coterie. “Mike and Allan bring complementary strengths, proven track records, and an unapologetic focus on building software that solves real problems. This is a defining moment for our tech organization.”
As CTO, Albert will oversee engineering excellence, technical architecture, and the company’s innovation roadmap. Egbert, as chief platform officer, will lead platform infrastructure, operations, DevOps, and performance to ensure system stability and readiness for growth.
Balancing Innovation with Operational Maturity

Coterie says the dual-leadership structure reflects the growing complexity of InsurTech execution and the need to balance innovation with operational maturity. The company adds that Albert and Egbert’s long-standing partnership will help accelerate the delivery of new experiences for agents, partners, and small business policyholders.
With backgrounds in product strategy, InsurTech community building, and digital workflow design for independent agents, Albert and Egbert bring both technical expertise and industry insight to their new roles.
Coterie provides commercial property/casualty coverages for small businesses, with a technology platform designed for faster quoting, smarter risk selection, and streamlined workflows for agents.
