LAWRENCE COUNTY, Mo. — Multiple rounds of heavy rain are in the forecast this week, raising the risk of flooding in the area. Some people may be concerned about how they can protect their homes and belongings with insurance.
Local insurance agent Jess Bowman with Bowman Insurance Group says one of the most important things to remember is natural flooding is not covered by homeowner insurance.
Flood insurance is a separate policy which covers water damage from the natural rising of ground water. Its different from homeowner insurance, which would cover water damage from a broken pipe and other things that could go wrong in your home.
Bowman says some mortgage lenders will require flood insurance if you are in a high-risk flood zone near lakes rivers and creeks. She says flood insurance is something everyone should consider because flooding can happen anywhere.
“If you are worried about it or you want to get a quote on your flood insurance, we can always do that for you,” Bowman said.
How much the policy will cost you will depend on where your home is located and what level of coverage you choose. Bowman says flood insurance can create peace of mind for anyone.
“Premiums can range to a few hundred dollars of year if you’re not in a high-risk flood zone,” Bowman said.
If you think flood insurance could be right for you be sure to talk with a trusted insurance agent about your options.
