Mount Union Alliance Chorale sets concert

ALLIANCE – The Mount Union Alliance Chorale will hold its spring concert at 3 p.m. April 27 in Brush Performance Hall in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Mount Union campus. The Mount Union Alliance Chorale includes a combination of community members and University of Mount Union students and faculty.

Tickets are $8 and free for all students. They can be purchased through the Mount Union box office at mountunion.edu/boxoffice, by phone at 330-821-2565 or in person from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday when classes are in session and one hour prior to the start of the performance.

Fatherhood Coalition plans Golfing with Dad event

CANTON – The Stark County Fatherhood Coalition’s inaugural event, Golfing with Dad, a free day of activities for fathers and their children, will be from 3 to 5 p.m. May 3 at First Tee of Canton, 2525 25th St. NE.

Golfing with Dad is open to children ages 6 and up and offers the opportunity for dads and male role models to bond with their children while enjoying golf, food and prizes. Participants will have the chance to play in a golf scramble, practice at the driving range, or try virtual golf on a simulator. No prior experience playing golf is necessary; beginners can take advantage of the simulator, while more experienced players can join the scramble.

Canton Senior Expo

CANTON – The 33rd annual Canton Senior Expo will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 7 at the Cultural Center for the Arts and the Memorial Civic Center. The show will provide area seniors with the opportunity to talk with representatives from local resources. The event, presented by Stark County Mental Health and Addiction Recovery, is free to attendees and open to the public.

Attendees can win prizes, play bingo and sign up for the chance to be a contestant in the Price is Right Game Show. Refreshments will be available in the morning and afternoon, while supplies last, and lunch will be available for purchase at the door.

The expo will include local businesses and resources sharing information on health and wellness, retirement, recreational activities, housing options, insurance, home improvement and senior organizations.

Learn little-known facts about first ladies

CANTON – The National First Ladies Library and Museum will present the free virtual program “Unsung and Unstoppable: The First Ladies and Facts You Never Knew” from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in honor of National First Ladies Day, which is Saturday.

The program will feature little-known facts about some of the nation’s first ladies, including Louisa Adams, Mary Lincoln, Edith Roosevelt, Mamie Eisenhower, Jacqueline Kennedy, Pat Nixon, and Laura Bush. No registration is required; use this link to join: https://tinyurl.com/hffkmt7a.

Free alcohol safety training

CANTON – The Safe Communities Coalition, part of the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, will hold free alcohol safety training for local businesses from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 9 at the Sheriff’s Office, 4500 Atlantic Blvd. NE.

The Sheriff’s Office, Safe Communities, Esber Beverage, and Drug Free Stark County are collaborating to offer free TIPS training to businesses that sell or serve alcohol. TIPS is a nationally recognized program that trains bartenders, other staff, and retail vendors on responsible alcohol service. The training teaches legal responsibilities, fake ID identification, and tips to recognize intoxication to prevent underage drinking and drunken driving. This training may help businesses be protected from DUI/OVI liability and help lower business insurance premiums.

Learn about Victorian science fiction

CANTON – The McKinley Presidential Library and Museum’s Soup at Six program topic at 6 p.m. May 8 will be “Edison’s Conquest of Mars: Aliens in Victorian Science Fiction.”

Museum associate David Ziegler will lead a study in the works and worlds of three Victorian-era authors who designed their interplanetary intelligences with Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution in mind. The works to be studied include: Les Xipèhuz, War of the Worlds, and Edison’s Conquest of Mars.

CANTON – Third Street NW will be closed between Market and Cleveland avenues from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 1, according to a Police Department news release.

Murder mystery dinner theater
