West Houston apartment residents given two choices after massive flooding

In videos shared only with KHOU 11, you could see water pouring through the ceiling and walls, flooding the apartment.

HOUSTON — A West Houston family is figuring out the next steps after a pipe burst and flooded their apartment on Christmas morning.

It happened at the Trails of Woodlake Apartments near Westheimer.

In video shared by resident Dolores Ruiz Thursday, you could see water really pouring through the ceiling and walls, leaving several inches of water inside the unit.

The family says most of their furniture and clothes are ruined. Fortunately, she said renters insurance will help cover those losses.

The Houston Fire Department shut off the water, but the family says they couldn’t reach apartment management on Christmas Day.

Shortly after KHOU 11 started asking questions, a maintenance worker showed up to get rid of the water.

Ruiz told us on Friday morning that she did get in touch with apartment management and they gave her two options — they could either put her in a new unit or they’ll let her out of her lease altogether.

Ruiz hasn’t told us what she plans to do.
