BATON ROUGE, La. (KALB) – Louisiana has a slew of new laws that aim to reduce property and auto insurance premiums across the state.
One new law provides a $10,000 state income tax credit to homeowners who use their personal funds to install a certified fortified roof.
Another new law gives the insurance commissioner more authority to reject excessive rate increases; however, Commissioner Tim Temple said he already has this authority.
Governor Jeff Landry also signed a bill that requires insurance companies to notify the state’s Department of Insurance if they plan to stop writing new policies or expand their coverage in specific areas.
